Alembic

The face of the tabula rasa
Blank slate awaiting the wind
Like the priestess of Pythia
Inhaling infinity within

Did you anticipate my arrival
Grasping wisps of worn coat-tails?
Can you taste the rag-tag sense of style
Can you hear the breeze rustling these sails?

Coaxed into a maelstrom
A thundering song for a stormy dawn
And here everybody comes
And there everyone has gone

{Chorus}
Canvas stretched on rubber bands
Exotic ink fetched from faraway lands
Images etched in hourglass sands
Keep whatever you catch in your hands

I dreamt my way to this domain
Dancing into the serpent’s lair
I came in the name of the goddess of grain
So blissfully unaware

At the crossroads the curtain rippled
Centuries swept away
And then our numbers were tripled
When the djinn came out to play

We’ve caught a drop of magic
Raining from phantom clouds
Distilled in the alembic
Until it sings the spell out loud
