Mandrake Lake

By Indi Riverflow | May 8, 2013

You know we had some bright nights
Down by Mandrake Lake
Dreamwebs dropped from swan-drawn flight
Waves of wakening washed in the wake

She whispers her will on the wisp of the wind
Ballets of fireflies and star-studded skies
Folds of old fables and worn yarns of the wise

You know we spied the deep inside
Floating in Mandrake Lake
Refracted reactions unable to hide
Mirrored in murmurs mortal mouths make

Freed from gravity by the heat of a candle
Cranked up with levity by a fiery handle
Hanging from a mile-high balloon

You know we drowned on what we found
Sinking into Mandrake Lake
Coiling cords around twilight sounds
Memory of water melting matter’s mistakes

I might be a cracked broken vessel
Letting the stream slip and spill
Something’s bound to break when you wrestle
With wit in the grip of wide-eyed will

You know we dove to the treasure trove
Beneath the surface of Mandrake Lake
Sprites in spite of the web we wove
When we wrested ourselves awake

Mandrake Lake
