The Fool

By Indi Riverflow | November 23, 2011

The Fool was always misunderstood
Always kept his eyes on the sky
Dropping out whenever he could
Just a half step ahead of the FBI

Shouldering a humble hobo stick
Puppy nipping at heedless heels
Fool set off in search of kicks
Not a bit worried about the next meal

Found himself nowhere bound
Using blind intuition to see
Never looking down or around
On a quest for lesser destinies

{Chorus}
You might condemn such careless ease
You know innocence is no crime
Call him whatever you please
We all play the Fool sometimes
We all play the Fool sometimes

The Fool journeyed to the East
Without any sort of notion why
Skipped into the belly of the beast
And out the back without batting an eye

Randomly turned on a road to the South
Hoping to find some peace and quiet
Wandered down to the Delta’s mouth
Stumbled into a skull-cracking riot

{Chorus}

Next he took a ride heading North
To scope out the aurora’s blue lights
Heedless of the wolves called forth
To halt his unwitting fugitive flight

Twenty-three states wanted him brought in
For wanton negligent criminal sin
But the trail went cold where he’d just been
The luck of the Fool made compasses spin
