Pigeonhole

By Indi Riverflow | September 3, 2014

Because you’ve seen a side of me
You might think you’ve seen it all
Relegate me to the role you see
As if anyone were that small

I’m often confused for my depictions
Call it a case of mistaken identity
Yes, sir, I do fit the description
But no, that doesn’t begin to cover me

{Chorus}
What will it take to be myself
When everyone wants me
To be somebody else
It’ll take one hell of a spell
To blast out of that gravity well
What’s the escape velocity
To slingshot my soul
Out of this mile-deep pigeonhole?

Type type typecast, far too suitable for the part
So much that everyone takes it to heart
I’ve never been known for my own art
But I’m jumping off the bandwagon to catch a fresh start

What can I say, imitation fit me like a glove
As if I were cast by some playwright above
To show us all that push come to shove
They’re all doves if you give enough love

{Chorus}

So I’ve come to try my hand at creation
Driven by an original motivation
I’ve been known to embody an emulation
But I’m more than the sum of your expectations

That’s the way the rumors roll
I wouldn’t touch them with a ten-foot pole
How you see me is beyond my control
But I won’t stay stuck in a pigeonhole
