Xochipilli’s Mask
By Indi Riverflow | February 26, 2012

Morning glory sacred smoke
Open the Sun
Inhale or choke
But never forget the way you woke
Peeling back the serpent’s cloak
Standing by poets and the brave in battle
Armed with chants and dance
And shaking mad rattles
Panoramas carved into primal images
Taking tolls along astral bridges
They trek half the globe for a day of dream
Climb jungle cliffs and swim upstream
Just to shatter the story recited in vain
Heal psychic rifts and reset the brain
{Chorus}
What you’d never seek is what you’ll find
The root
Of the fruit
Of the divine
Wrestle with warrior tasks
Answer questions you tremble to ask
Be in the dance when you fall into trance
You gave it all for your chance to glance
At the visions behind
Xochipilli’s mask
Some things can only be grasped
When the flower child has been unmasked
Mount pyramid steps the warrior’s way
Source of sorcery shadows at play
Some things can only be grasped
When the flower child has been unmasked
Teonanácatl
Flesh of the Fifth
Excessive god
Eyes rolling back
Eternally awed
Some things can only be grasped
When the flower child has been unmasked
{Chorus}
Quetzalcoatl
Step lightly on the serpent’s tongue
Leaden feet are likely stung
Ladders latticed with invisible rungs
On which the heads of pretenders are hung
Nahautl
Languages lost
Cultures cost
Meet the new boss
Bearing a cross
Effigy unearthed
Inestimable worth
Totem of mirth
Calendar rebirth
Some things can only be grasped
When the flower child has been unmasked
