Boom and Bust

By Indi Riverflow | June 19, 2012

In the garden we gathered whatever we’d need
Till we were driven out by our insatiable greed
It was all over once the ape stood up straight
Lifted a hand to redefine fate
Couldn’t see the forests for the wood
Confused by the fruiting body of evil and good

{Chorus 1}
Echoes of the city of gold
Only heard in legends rarely told
Crumbled in battle pitting sun against moon
Scattered to the winds as we will be soon

Hand hammers windows with nails
Hoof that gets hammered plays and wails
One drunk on power, the other on wine
Staring at each other across the mind’s fine line
One giving voice to the metal machine
The other the holiness of all that is green

{Chorus 2}
Echoes of the city of silver
Set on the banks of the river
Fell to the ravages of riches in its prime
Heed it well, for history rhymes

Behold the Lord of Laws
The Lord of Lies
Lord that wants to poke out both your eyes
Binding the globe to one shadow of truth
Pulling freedom from every last rebellious tooth
Cursing the Devil seen in the mirror
Playing on panic at Nature’s terrors

{Chorus 3}
Echoes of the city of bronze
Built on the honor of warrior’s bonds
Sacked by kings recovering a queen
Songs of heroes their bones picked clean

Citadels built on welted backs
Buried in silence beside the railroad tracks
Dreams dissolved in the Empire’s grip
Hopes smashed with the flick of a whip

Layers of wool coiled into hangman’s rope
Covering our eyes as we slip down the slope
What Providence will intervene to save
An Empire cursed by the suffering of slaves?

Spider queen weaving tapestry stitches
Backed by Her legion of dark-cloaked witches
Rising to raise a forest revival
Casting a circle for Earth’s survival

{Chorus 4}
Nearing the apex of the age of steel
Crushing the wild beneath our heel
We boom and we bust
But our towers are bound to rust
Now we decide if this will be the end
Or if golden times will dawn once again
