Initiation

By Indi Riverflow | October 4, 2011

This one came from an assignment John offered at our first breakfast meeting; he supplied the verse about the man with the left-handed star from his notebook. He wanted to include ideas from or about Crowley, Blavatsky and Reich, which was a fine notion, but far too vast for a single song. This three-part mystic verse was the result.

I.

Your trip dangles in the ether
Cryptic words of power
Madness and craft combined

Serpent woven thrice
By rare device
Ancient songs revived

There ions go
Building lattices
Row by row

Lay down the paths
Lay down the law
Do what thou wilt
With wonder and awe

Child of the moon
Laughing in tune
As above
So below

Hang upside down
Dance like a clown
Tea leaves and runes

Hidden from sight
Grief does not bite
Splitting atom’s rays

Look for the man
With the left-handed star
Hermetically sealed
In a mason jar

II.
Each cosmic speck
Contained in a deck
Suits born conjoined
Blades grails staffs and coins

Isis dropping veils
Eyes shedding scales
Astral voice of fire
Transcending time

The branch and the root
Leaf and the fruit
Sprout from one seed
Dropped by the same deed

Inscribed on a gold leaf
Embossed in relief
Guiding the dead

Symbols align
Esoteric signs
The desired design
Hold it in your mind
As the coil slowly unwinds

III.

Tap silver fork
Spring harmonic sparks
Resonating through the planes

Flow back and forth
Between South and North
Nothing is still

Combined by alchemy
Fingers find the ring
Parted lock and key
Will not reveal anything

Weird science spurned
Heretical texts burned
Banished to the dungeon to die

Life force in a box
Disintegrating blocks
Azure waves of brain

Gathering of clouds
Protest rumbling loud
Yet still came the rain
