Aftermyth Aria

ARIA

Echoing yesterday’s songs
As I sing tomorrow’s tunes
Scrying my tattered soul
Like a scattered plate of runes
Hunting new ways to praise
The pale glory of the moon

Now’s a phase we’re zipping through
Here’s a space which trails you
All smoke and mirrors from the fan’s-eye view
Something borrowed and something true
A dash of old and a splash of new

The dream’s still real
It’s reality that’s fake
And another dream unravels
Every time we wake
Oh, nothing but love to travel with
But we’ll outlive the After-myth

Hotshot used-song salesman
You really knew how to work the lot
Turned a junkyard into a caravan
With an act that hit the spot

We mistook the Sun for a halo
A Mobius band drawn in the sand
Stuck a crown on a scarecrow
And made him king of the land

Ah, those were our halcyon nights
Dancing on fantasy’s ledge
Outlandish pied-piper satellites
Pushing the envelope over the edge

Jack be shady, Jack be slick
Jack took off with the music-stick
But we’ve got wax and we’ve got wicks
And there’s no shortage of magic
When you’re in on the trick

The dream’s still real
It’s reality that’s fake
And another dream unravels
Every time we wake
Oh, nothing but love to travel with
But we’ll outlive the After-myth

Well, back to the old drawing board
Let’s see if this one strikes a chord
For the blueprint’s only paper-thin
When the human element enters in

When the fabric meets the flesh
When the veils fall with finesse
When art devours artifice
Yet we stand naked nonetheless

The dream’s still real
It’s reality that’s fake
And another dream unravels
Every time we wake
Oh, nothing but love to travel with
But we’ll outlive the After-myth
We’ll outlive the After-myth
