Night-Sea Swimmer

By Indi Riverflow | April 27, 2014

As far as I can tell the world’s all wet
And I’m paddling without an oar
Survival seems an unsafe bet
With odds so astronomically poor
Oh, you’ll hear tall tales told of shore
But I’ve never met anyone yet
Who can say they’ve been there before

There’s no point in going slow
Shakin’ a tail and one shot to spend
Carrying blueprint codes to the motherlode
Chasing the glow at the tunnel’s end
All swept up in the undertow
Billions of brothers and not one friend

{Chorus}
Bursting forth at bullet pace
Night-sea swimmers in full chase
Only one winner takes this race
No future comes for second place

How could any being ever be so low?
I sure can’t fathom who would throw
The lot of us thus into these dark seas
But somehow I know
He must be just like me

Jettisoned in unison
From a loaded silent cannon
Spilling by the billion
Into sightless lightless oceans
All with the singular motivation
Of landing an ovation

{chorus}

The poor sots out there treading
Precious seconds shedding
Hey, if we don’t get where we’re heading
We’re most surely bound to drown
And I don’t see any lifeboats around

I don’t know what awaits on Earth
On the other side they’re calling birth
But I’m sure the universe will burst
If I don’t manage to get there first
