Aftermyth

Held a coronation for a scarecrow
Crowned by a setting-sun halo
Planted lines of wind in sterile soil
Watered with essential oils
Come summer still tilling a field of dust
Just us and that straw-boss
Out of time and out of trust

{Chorus}
The dream’s still real
It’s reality that’s fake
And another dream unravels
Every time I wake
A lot of baggage to travel with
But we’ll outlive the Aftermyth

We spoke the unspeakable out loud
Danced up a storm among the clouds
Split the sky and kicked loose rain
Trickling down in liquid refrains
And the beanstalks sprouted tall and thin
But crafty Jack did the giant in
For a flimsy sack of gilded tin

{Chorus}
The dream’s still real
It’s reality that’s fake
And another dream unravels
Every time I wake
A lot of baggage to travel with
But we’ll outlive the Aftermyth

We’re way past the very last straw
There’s no un-seeing the things we saw
The masks are off on faces of clay
All too clear by stark naked day
Oh, there it goes, on a single wing
Caught in a vortex of reckoning
Tangled up in intricate not-work strings
