Tripwire
By Indi Riverflow | May 10, 2015
Effigies melting down
But the fever’s just a symptom
Of what’s ailing this town
The fountain’s spoutin’ oil
The mountain’s slick with grease
The river’s fixin’ to boil
And the valley knows no peace
{Chorus}
Tracing the tripwire
Back to the trap
It sings like a siren
And stings like a slap
It’s a trojan horse, of course, of course
Obvious if you consider the source
Oh, now I get the joke
Should have caught it before
Knew it the minute I awoke
No need to wonder anymore
All alone with this megaphone
And hardly any ears to hear
Pluckin’ feathers and pickin’ bones
From the goose we cooked last year
No one knows the hour
Darkness caught us off guard
The bell has struck the tower
And the ground is shiftin’ hard
{Chorus}
It’s as if we’ve never met
Trading low-blow epithets
I only knew your silhouette
And we stand off as strangers yet
We’re caricatures of who we were
Lobbing paint-filled grenades
Gone nuclear in the rear-view mirror
And precious little shade
